LITIGATION BRINGS £20 DEBT TO £59
How, by the expense of litigation, a debt of approximately £2O had risen to £59, was disclosed at the Magistrates’ Court. Retone, yesterday, when Air. D. M. Dickson, on behalf of a Christchurch drapery firm, sought a judgment summons order against a debtor on a judgment for £59/13/2, obtained in 1927. Debtor, who was represented by Air. AV. P. Coles, told Mr. A. Al. Goulding, S.M., that the original debt was about £2O, hut there had been various proceedings, such as a hearing, rehearing, application to take evidence elsewhere, and application for further rehearing, with the result that the debt was now £59/13/2. The magistrate said the debtor had suffered a good deal of hardship through unemployment and sickness. He refused to make an order.
