POSTAL BALLOTS
Selection Of Two Auckland Labour Candidates Dominion Special Service. Auckland, July 20. Although it is described as being quite constitutional, an unusual position has arisen in the Labour Party’s candidature for the Eden seat, at present held by Mr. W. T. Anderton, president of the Auckland Central branch of the party. „ Mr. C. J. Matthew has also been nominated by a group of supporters, and a postal ballot to decide between him and Mr. Anderton is at present being conducted. In Remuera, formerly Parnell, electorate two Labour nominations have been made, and in this case also a decision is being reached by postal ballot. The nominees are Mrs. Mary Dreaver, a member of the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Hospital Board, and Mr. J. S. Stewart, formerly a member of the city council.
It was stated that there had been no opposition to the recandidature of the other sitting Auckland Labour members of Parliament, and it is expected that Dominion headquarters will soon announce the endorsement of the candidature of the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, the Minister of Justice, Mr. H. G. R. Mason, Mr. W. J. Lyon, Mr. J. A. Lee and Mr. A. C. Osborne.
