OBITUARY
Mr. W. M. Laing
A former well-known Wairtrrapa farmer, Mr. William Miller Laing, died at his residence, -1 Gore Street, Seatoun, Wellington, on Saturday morning. Mr. Laing, who was in his seventyninth year, was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Laing, old residents of Dunedin. As a young man Mr. Laing took up land in the Bideford district, at that time all standing bush, about 55 years ago. The property, which was named Glenerieff after his grandfather’s parish in Scotland, soon became well known and was developed Into a prosperous sheep station. Mr. Laing next took over Riversdale, ii farm in the Wairarapa, and at the time of his death owned Rata Hills station, in the Bideford district. He took up residence at Seatoun when he retired, several years ago. Mr. Laing married the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Cameron, of Rewarewa station, and celebrated his golden wedding about a year ago. He is survived by his wife, one son, Mr. Gordon Laing. Upper Plain, Masterton, and three daughters, Mesdames I’. Staples and 11. Rix-Trott, and Miss Jean Laing, all of Wellington. Two sons, Mr. J. A. Laing and Mr. J. 8. Laing predeceased him. There are Ml grandchildren and three great-grand-children. Mr. J. M. Laing, “The Peaks, Tinui, is a brother. The funeral will take place lit Masterton to-day.
Mrs. Frank Morrison
Mrs. Frank Morrison, a well-known resident of the Waimate district, died recently at her home at Hunter. Mrs. Morrison was a daughter of Mr. M. D. Muirson, editor of the “Otago Daily Times” in 1877. and her mother was Miss Elizabeth Cargill, daughter of Mr T. A. Cargill, and granddaughter o. Captain William Cargill, founder ol the Otago settlement. Mrs. Morrison was twice married. Her first husband was Mr. J. Blackie, one-time manager ol the Union Bank of Australasia at Gore, and at Waverley. Later she married Mr. Frank Morrison, son of Major Morrison, of Dunedin. She leaves a husband, one daughter, Miss Marjorie Morrison (Hunter), a son, Mr. F. Morrison, ot the State Forestry Service, two brothers, Captain W. B. Muirson (WiHmate) and Mr. F. Muirson (AuclsAuud) trad a half-sister, Miss A. Minter (London).
