WESTPORT RACES

Meeting' At Riccarton Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, J uly 8. The Westport Jockey Club’s meeting to be held on the Ricearton racecourse to-morrow ha» attracted well-filled fields which include horses from the West Coast and South Canterbury. The track will be slow but not heavy. The win and place system will be in use. The principal event, the Westport Handicap. should provide a close content. Included in the field will be Lunt Refrain, who returned south after bin race at Trentham yesterday. Although partial to soft going, he failed to handle the Trentham ground, but. the firmer conditions at Ricearton will find him a different horse. A. 15. Ellie, L. J. Ellis, C. Wilson, J. Jennings and M. Caddy returned to-day from Wellington to ride at the meeting. The following horses are likely to race prominently:— Highweight Handicap: Mount Vai, Gillie, Metal Bird. Maiden Stakes: Density, Phenomenal, Rex Maitland.

Scanlon Hack Handicap: Great Memory. Emmeline Girl, Maroha. Westport Handicap: Last Refrain, Studley Royal, Swordstick. Flying Hack Handicap: Garonne, Papernilla, Nightdress. Morley Handicap: Land Raid, Royal Gallant, Palmyra. The card is as follows:— 11,32— HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, of £llO. Nino furlongs.
