OBITUARY
Mr. R. M. Hawkins
The death occurred at Hastings Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital this week, following a short illness, of Mr. Robert Moana Hawkins, at the age of 42, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Mr. Hawkins was born at Hastings, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hawkins, well-known early settlers in the town. He was a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and left with the Main Body, serving with the mounted rifles. He leaves a widow and nine young children. Mrs. M. D. A. Tanner The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Mary Darina Anne Tanner, widow of the late Mr. Charles Ord Tanner, at the age of 72 years, says a “Dominion” (Special Service message from Hastings. Mrs. Tanner was born in Scotland and came to New Zealand -48 years ago. She married a son of one of the district’s earliest settlers. During the war years she was a keen and active worker on behalf of the Red Cross. Although she had not recently taken aaprominent part in public life, she enjoyed a wide friendship and wits closely associated with many of Hawke's Bay's bestknown families. Mrs. Tanner leaves two sons, Messrs. Thomas Norton Tanner, Hastings, and the Rev. Carl Errington Tanner, The Vicarage. Rotherham, North Canterbury.
