LOWER HUTT MUNICIPAL BAND
Practice Room To Be Built The secretary’s report presented at the seventeenth annual meeting of the Lower Hutt Municipal Band siiowed that the band had made 47 public appearances during the year. At the .39 practices there was an average ,attendance of 23 players. The playing membership was 34, exclusive of several learners. Concerts organised had been successful as well as other projects begun by the band. Excellent support by the people of Lower Hutt had encouraged the bandsmen. The financial position was satisfactory. Appreciation was expressed at the work of the president, Mr. W. D. Burton, who, it was said, showed a keen practical interest in the band. Reference was also made to the good service of Mr. R. I). Smith, who had held the office of auditor since the foundation of the band. . It was stated that within six months the band hoped to be in a position to build its own practice room on property which had been leased for that purpose. Election of Officers. Officers elected were: Patron, Sir Alexander Roberts; president. Mr. W. D. Burton: sub-patron, Mr. A. Baker; conductor, Mr. A. O. Kaye; bandmaster, Mr. G. Lawrence; treasurer, Mr. D. Gillies; secretary, Mr. G. Kaye: auditor. Mr. R. D. Smith; sergeant, Air. W. Watkins; drum-ma jor, Mr. M. C. Redmond; corporal, Mr. J. Weir; lance-eorporal, Mr. 11. Kaye; librarian, Mr. J. At a curd party on Tuesday afternoon at the Hutt Croquet Club pavibon, the prize-winners were Mrs. A. J. Kelly and Mrs. H. E. Leighton. The players were Mesdames J. Wood, G. Monat. J. Clegg, J. Passmore. Parkins, A. 11. Wright, V. Piner. E. McKenzie, M. Webley, J. Stonehouse, Sargisson, E. Kirk, A. V. King. Lyford, and D. McKenzie, and Miss H. Macaskill.
