SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES c
Wellington Prices Improve
At the sale of sheepskins, hides and tallow held yesterday by the Wellington brokers an average offering was submitted to a full bench of buyers. There was keen competition, with a general improvement on the prices of sheepskins and hides. Sheepskins: All sections of the trade competed keenly and an excellent clearance was effected at prices which were generally Jd. a lb. up on last sale's quotations. The small offering of salted skins showed a corresponding advance. Hides: These were also in demand and a general improvement in values was recorded. Heavy, medium and lightweights advanced by to 3-Bd. a lb. Kips showed little change, while yearlings were not in demand and suffered a decline of about Id. a lb. Calfskins advanced by Ad. to Jd. a lb. Tallow: A small offering, with little change in values. The range of prices is as follows: — Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 7fd. to 9d.; fine eron-'bred, 6Jd- to BJd.; medium crossbred, 6d. to Sid.; coarse crossbred, 7d. to BJd.; half wools, 5Jd. to B}<l.; quarter wools, 3id. to 7d.; pelts, 2id. to Salted skins: Half wools, 3/- to 3/9; three-quarter wools to 5/-; full wools to 6/1. Hides: Ox, 331 b. to 441 b., 4d. to 4 7-Bd.; 451 b. to 521 b., 2d. to sid.; 531 b. to 591 b., 4-ld. to 6Jd.; 601 b. to 691 b., 4Jd. to 7 3-8(1.; 70lb. and over, 5 7-Bd. to 7d. Cow, 331 b. to 391 b., 2d. to -lid.: 401 b. to 481 b., 2 5-Bd. to 4Jd.; 491 b. and over, 31d. to sd. Nil), 251 b. to 321 b.. 2 3-8. to*s 3-Bd.; 171 b. to 241 b„ 3 1-Sd. to 7d. Sundries: Cowtails, 9d. to lid. Horsehair. 15Jd. to 214 d. Gold Mining Returns The Mossy Creek gold dredge return is 40oz. 15dwt. from 8540 cubic yards worked in 129 hours. Blackwater Mines, Ltd., reports tjie following return for June: —Crushed 3560 tons, yielding 1649 fine ounces of gold from all sources, (lie value of which, taking gold at 140/6 per tine ounce, was £11,583. Working expenses were £7075, leaving a working profit of £4508. Development expenditure was £743 and capital expenditure £3713. Japanese Wool Buying Bv Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Tokio, July 7.
