RATIFICATION OF PACT

Britain And Italy

SPANISH SETTLEMENT FIRST (British Official Wireless.) (Received July 7, 8.30 p.m.) RUGBY, July 7. Asked in the House of Commons to-day whether he intended to fix a date by which the conditions preceding the ratification of the AngloItalian agreement must be in operation, Mr. Chamberlain, the Prime Minister, replied: "The British Government has repeatedly stated that it is not in a position to give full effect to this agreement, which is not made subject to ratification, until it can regard the Spanish question as settled.

“At the same time, as I stated on June 22, the Government is anxious to see the agreement brought into force at the earliest possible date consistent with fulfilment of the above-mentioned conditions.”
