AUSTRO-GERMAN LOANS

Debt Settlement Criticised Bv Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received July 3, 6.30 p.m.) London, July 2. Although Austro-German loans were sharply marked up It would he wrong to infer that the city wholeheartedly approves of the debt settlement. On the contrary, an influential body of opinion considers that it undermines the principles of the sanctity of contract, thus discouraging investors from further international lending which some _ quarters regard ae so desirable. It is pointed out that Germany formerly had no difficulty in paying the full contractual rate of interest on the Dawes and Young loans, while the Austrian Government, with its more slender resources, scrupulously met its obligations. London, July 1. The city editor of the “Daily Mail” says there was great excitement in. the citv after the close of business hours. Austro-German bonds bounded up by £7 to £lB per cent, following the statement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer announcing the agreement with Germany.
