JUMPING AT AWAPUNI

Hanover Schools Well Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, June 24. At Awaimni this morning the Dannevirke Hunt Cup candidate Hanover (McDowell) rave « proficient display over four schooling hurdles. ' Yesterday he schooled twice over the double brush and post-and-rails. giving another faultless exhibition. This Little England gelding has the family ability for jumping, but may not be quite seasoned enough to show his best form yet. Taillight (McDowell) ami Umwo (Parkes) cleared four schooling hurdles in their usual polished fashion, having a fair amount of pace on all th<‘ way. Earlier in the week the Peach Brandy —Elvaette gelding (Chaplin) and All Blood (TattersnU) schooled over three of the pony hurdles, shaping very satisfactorily. The Peach Brandy gelding is bred from a fine hurdler of a few seasons back mid has grown into a very solid horse since he was last in training. He is built on good lines for ' jumping. All Blood is starting to build up again and a course of jumping may thicken him out. The two-year-old Selkirk (Dye) sprinted home from the twoTurlonig iu 261. He is threatened with a cold and may not be started at Dannevirke to-morrow. W. J. Broughton will be at the Dannevirke meeting and has been engaged for Mystery Boy mid Golden Enterprise. He may also ride Joe Louis. Mr. Rod M'eKenz!,' has only Clessamor racing nt present, but. next season he may have two two-year-olds to be raced. One is a chestnut filly by Lackham from Ethyl, tin unraced mare by Chief Ruler from Cleasanta, the dam of Clessamor, and the other a chestnut colt by Peach Brandy from Moina. Moina also was not raved and she is by Hunting Song from the All .Black mitre Black Ada, thus being a half-sister to those high-class handicap performers of Mr. McKenzie’s. Piuthair, Clarinda and Clandhu. Moina also has a rising yearling filly by Lackham. These youngsters lave been well done and, coming from such good winning families, may keep the McKenzie colours prominent later on.

HAWKE’S BAY HUNT Programme For Annual Meeting Through the generosity of members of the/Lowry family, both the winner and the' runner-up of this year’s Hawke’s Bay Hunt Clip Steeplechase will Receive trophies. The stake attached to the race, in addition to the value of the. trophies, is £l3O. The winner will receive a cup valued at 20 guineas presented by Mr. T. 11. Lowry, and the runner-up a trophy valued at" five guineas, presented by Mrs. J. N. Lowry. The programme for the meeting, which will be held on the Hastings racecourse on July 10. is published this morning, and is one of seven events. It ineludes a hurdle race of about a mile and a half for hacks and hunters, a maiden flat event, sprint aud distance flat events for hacks, a flat event for hunters (gentlemen riders), and an open flat event of six furlongs aud a half. Nominations will close at 8 p.m. on Monday next with the secretary, Mr. A. E. Wishart, Queen Street, Hastings (telephone 259.1, P.O. Box 13).

PACERS v. TROTTERS

Metropolitan Club To Stage Special Race By Telegraph—Press Association/ Christchurch, June 24. A special race for trotters and pacers has been included in the programme for the August meeting of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. The prize is £BOO and the distance two miles. The field will consist of six pacers and six trotters selected by the club from nominated horses. A special handicap has also been arranged, the trotters beginning from scratch and the 'pacers from 72 yards behind. The contest will serve in a.measure to decide the much-debated question of stamina in the respective classes.
