Nine Chamois Sighted (From “The Dominion,” June 7, 1913.) The Hon. R. 11. Rhodes advises that he has received a report from the Hermitage stating that Guides Thompson and Richmond sighted nine chamois ou the lower slopes of Mt. Wakefield, Mt. Cook range, on May 12. All the animals appeared to be in fine condition, and one was a half-grown young one. The number sighted is one more than the number liberated, hence is conclusive proof that the animals are breeding. [Chamois are now abundant throughout the high mountains of the South Island, even as far north as the Marlborough Sounds.] ft ♦ ♦

The Minister of Railways informed a reporter last evening that the extra trains that have been running through to Te Aro Station for some months past would be discontinued in that part of their running as from July 1, and would henceforth make Lnnibton Station their terminus as they used to do. The decision of the Minister will probably not cause any surprise, for the fact that trains have been running empty to and from Te Aro day after day has been freely commented upon in many quarters of lath. The qmwtion of improvements nt Te Aro to facilitate goods traffic is being held over in the meantime. (Trains from the Wairarapa and Hie Hutt used to run through Customhouse Quay and Jervois Quay to Te Aro Station in Wakefield Street.]
