EXPECTED TO STRIKE

Electricity Workers In

Victoria

(Received May 25, 11.5 p.m.)

Melbourne, May 25.

About 200 engineers employed in the State Electricity Commission’s, powerhouse at Hallourn, which supplies the greater part of Victoria with electricity are expected to strike on Saturday They are demanding higher wages, a 44-hoitr week and other concessions which the commission refused. All efforts to reach a settlement have failed.

As the men concerned are mostly on maintenance work, it is unlikely that their action would affect the electricity supply unless the strike lasted for a long period or other unions are effected.
