HUTT COUNTY ROADS

4 AVork At Raumati Planned Approval was given by the Hutt County Council yesterday to the raising ' of a loan, subject to the consent of the ■ ratepayers concerned, for the construe- ; lion of a road between Raumati and Raumati South. The road will be a mile and a quarter long and will extend from Raumati to the Esplanade, parallel to the foreshore but separated from the beach and the old coach route by a row of building sections. The estimated cost is £5OOO. Authority was given for the purchase of the frontage and corner of Mr. E. S. Oliver's property, Moana Road. Plimmerton. for the improvement of the ’ thoroughfare. Although it was indicated that the Main Highways Board considered that, because of heavy commitments this year, it would lie unable to approve of a general increase in the present mileage of main highways in the county, it was decided to ask that the road known in various parts as Whiteman’s Valley Road. Silverstream Hill, and Wallaceville Hill be added.. The council decided to apply for the following votes from the public works funds to be renewed as £1 for £1 subsidies: Ngatiawa Road, metalling £5O: Otaihauga Road, formation, widening, and metalling. £300; Rangiora Road, top end metalling. £6O; Game Farm Road, formation, widening, and metalling. £350; Moana Road seawall, £1000; Andrews Road, metalling, £9O: Whiteman’s Valley to top of hill, widening, £2OO. In response to a question from the district engineer of the . Public Works Department, it was agreed to find £lO6 for sealing 2 miles 10 chains (total cost £850) on the Hutt-Waikanae main highway, and £7O for reshaping and tarpriming a further mile of the highway (total cost. £280).
