FIRE IN A LIFT

The efficient working of an automatic fire alarm prevented a serious fire in the Government Buildings, Customs Street, early this morning. The tire occurred in a lift stationed at the third floor. The passenger compartment was destroyed, hut the city brigade made a good save. Tlie superiiiteiiilent reported al a Fire Board meeting later that (lie tire started in a waste paper basket in the lift.
