CONVEYER SCHOOLS

Good Display At Awapuni i Do MIN IO N S p: E CIA LS E R VIC E. Palmerston North, May 25. ■ The schooling of Luna Lux’s relative, ■ Conveyer, who won the big handicap on ■ Saturday at the Manawatu Racing Club s I winter meeting, provided the highlight of I this morning’s work at Awapuni, and ini dicated his prospects next Saturday when he is. to make bis debut as a hurdler at Foxton. Strolling (C. Thomson) jumped three schooling hurdles safely. He did not have a great deal of pace on, but he took each obstacle in his stride, and the half-bro-ther by Vigono to Stroller may be a useful sort later on. He is building up, but may need a little time before he is ready to race. Warehi (Thomson) as apportioned similar work, but he did not appear to relish hig task, although he made no mistakes. Kentucky Song and Red Sand, who were left behind by H. Dulieu after racing last Saturday, were among those out doing pacework. Kentucky Song shows no ill-effects from her fall in the Flaxbourne Hurdles, and Red Sand seems to be all the better for her race. Power Chief (A. W. McDonald) gave a fine display over two rounds of the steeplechase fences, which comprised a brush, the hencoop, and the double brush on each circuit. Power Chief did not have much pace on at the first fence and just lobbed over, but he jumped the remaining seven fences beautifully, taking the double well both times. The Manawatu Hunt Cup winner is greatly benefited by his racing experience on Saturday. Conveyer (McDonald) had Tauman (B. Kowhai) as a companion over a round of the schooling hurdles, and, although he rapped the first, he took the others in his stride. He is a natural jumper, and he impressed in his first school in company. He hit out afterward in good style in his pacework and will be a very fit horse on Saturday next. Taumau gave his usual good display. Blue .Steel, who was recommissioned last week by L. Knapp, is a half-brother to Gainsay, who won in Mr. K. MeK. Duncan’s colours.

H. Johnstone has been engaged to ride Stargono in the Trial Stakes at Foxton on Saturday.
