SANDERS CUP VENUE

Recommendations For 1939

YACHTING ASSOCIATION

Recommendations for the. venue for the 1939 Sanders Cup yachting contest were receivedfr om two southern, assosiations at a meeting of the Wellington Proviniial Ya'cht and Motor Boat Association last night. Mr. A. Harvey presided. , , Ordinarily the contest would be held at Wellington in 1939, but Wellington have waived all right to the contest for that year in consideratio of holding it at Port Nicholson in 1940. Bluff Harbour was one of the finest harbours in New Zealand, stated the letter received from the Southland Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association. It was ideal for testing boats and crews and it provided suitable triangular and windward and leeward courses. The association admitted that the tides were strong, but they were no stronger than at Auckland. There was an absence of flukey winds and there was no difficulty in providing accommoldation for boats and crews. The Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association recommended Pater son Inlet at Stewart Island, and, as a second choice, Auckland. No decesion was made, as only two replies were received. It was decided to wait another month and to write again to other associations. Two appeals were received against decisions given by club sailing committees, and these were referred to the association’s sailing committee. A notice of motion was framed that a revision of the association's rules be undertaken and this matter will come before the members at the next meeting. It was decided that an entrance fee of 2/6 for each race he levied on boats entering for each race, or series of races, sailed under the jurisdiction of the association. Anniversary day regatta races will be excluded, and Taka-puna-class skippers will pay 1/-. There will be no entry fee for Tauranga-class boats.
