Conference Next Month

The second annual conference of the Maori Labour Party, which is run under the auspices of the Maori Advisory Council of the Labour Party, will be held in Wellington on June 6, 7 and 8. Upward of 200 delegates are eligible to attend, representing 206 branches with an approximate membership of 6000. The Hon. It. Mawhete, M.L.C., will preside. The conference will be opened by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, who will give an address mainly on native affairs. Cabinet Ministers are expected to be present during the conference. One hundred and fifty remits are set down for consideration. A number ask that the housing of Maoris should be expedited, particularly through the Native Department.
