TOUR OF AUSTRALIAN TEAM
Badminton Federation Makes Arrangements A meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Badminton Federation was hold 011 Monday night at M ellingtou, Mr. D. O. Whyte presiding. It was stated that Timaru did not now wish to hold the South Island championships. and it was agreed that they be held in Christchurch. Letters were received from several associations strongly protesting against Hie high costs to clubs of the shuttle adopted for the present season by the New Zealand association. It was resolved by the management committee to consider the policy regarding shuttles at the next meeting. . The Waikato Badminton Association wrote stating that days in the week ending Saturday, September 3, would be the most convenient for holding the New Zealand championships tournament at Hamilton. These dates were approved. It was stated that the Western Districts Association had agreed to the Manawatu sub-association making application to the New Zealand federation fur direct affiliation as a full association. A list of numerous new clubs which had affiliated with various associations was read. The chairman expressed his gratification at the way the game was growing in popularity throughout the Dominion. The following associations wrote aecepting matches against a visiting Australian team, the place of the mutches being in parentheses: —Waikato (Hamilton and Rotorua), Taranaki (New Plymouth), western districts (Wanganui), Manawatu (Palmerston North), Wellington (Wellington), Hawke’s Bay (Hastings). Wairarapa (Masterton), Canterbury (Christchurch and Timaru), Otago (Oamaru and Dunedin). Southland has not yet replied. It was stated that a strong Australian team would leave Sydney on June 17 to tour New Zealand. The Test match, Australia v. New Zealand, will be played in the Town Hall, Wellington, on July 5 and 6. It was mentioned that the Australia v. Wellington match would also be played in the Town Hall.
The following selectors were appointed for teams to play against the Australians: North Island, Dr. G. W. Gower (Hamilton) ; South Island, Mr. G. R. Dickenson (Dunedin) ; New Zealand, Mr. C. J. E. Smith (Auckland, chairman), Dr. Gower and Mr. Dickenson.
