Marking the end of the anniversary celebrations, trophies won by New Zealand and America during the recent pageant, “Australia’s Marell to Nationhood,” were to-day presented by Mr. J. Dunningham, Minister in charge of the festivities. '
Mr. W. Lee Martin. New Zealand Minister of Agriculture, who is en route to an agricultural conference at Canberra, received New Zealand’s trophy, a silver plinth surmounted by a map of Australia within a circle bearing the celebrations’ emblem symbolising Australian native life.
It will be recalled that a New Zealand float gained first prize in the historical section of the pageant. Mr. Dunningham congratulated Ney Zealand on gaining the coveted prize with an exhibit that ranked high in a memorable procession. He emphasised that between America, New Zealand, and Australia there must be a permanent link for the control of the Pacific and nothing must he allowed to destroy the existing cordial relations. Mr. Martin acknowledged the sentiment and expressed his belief that the recent reunion had done more to cement the friendship between the two Dominions than anything that had happened hitherto. Mr. W. Taylor, New Zealand Trade Commissioner, and Mr. A. H. Cockayne, New Zealand Director of Agriculture. attended the ceremony.
