UPPER HUTT CONTEST

All four mayoral, candidates at Upper Hutt had expressed'pleasure at the prospect that he would be associated with them on tire council, said Mr. H Polson, Upper Hutt candidate for the borough council, in tin address at Mr. I’. There were hundreds in the borough who could see nothing wrong with it. he said ; as many as could see nothing right, lie claimed after 15 years with the Public Works Department, by whom he was now employed in a supervisory capacity, not only tn be capable of seeing where there was a fault, but to be able to assist in righting it. Some would vote on a ticket, some for old councillors, some for new blood and others, where sympathy and sentiment directed. They should not fail to include, what ever their feelings, a practical man. Concreting, tarsealjng. ehatiiielling and general construction were some of the big works of I In' present and future in the borough ; he had first-hand practical knowledge of them all. Politically he was independent. If there were a 10 per cent, increase in efficiency in borough works £10(10 a year could be saved and made available for use in oilier directions of civic improvement. He believed in a rating medium bv which amenities could he improved and provided slowly and surely on a basis of ability Io nay. This would attract more people to share in the borough's progress and its essential cost.
