Wellington Markets Quiet AUSTRALIANS FIRM Business opened quietly on the W elliiigt..n Stock Exchange yesterday, but the improved tone in Australian issues was well maintained. Trading was moderate, Australian shares accounting £or most of the recorded turnover. t ■ There was a good inquiry tor Government loans at about late rates, but sellers were reticent and no dealings were reported. Local body ami company debentures were dull. With the exception of Mew Zealand*', which were firmer, banks were quiet and easy. National of New Zealand remained weak, business being done at 5-1/-. There were inquiries for Commercial of Australia at 16/2. sellers asking 16/6 and £9 7/6 was offered for the preference issue. Goldsbrough Morts firmed to business at 30/6. There were no quotations of insurance shares and no buyers for gas shares. Meat freezing, woollen, shipping, coal, timber, and brewery issues were extremely dull. Leading Australian industrials were firm.
