GOLF COMPETITIONS

Paremata Club Opening More than 150 members and visitors from other clubs attended the official opening of the Paremata Golf Club’s season ou Sunday. The club captain, Mr. A. H. de Lisle, extended a welcome to the visitors, after which the president, Mr. E. Bradey, drove the first ball. In the morning a mixed foursome bogey competition was played, the winners being Mr. and Mrs. Wilkie, with a card of 4 up. The runners-up were Mr. C. Whitcombe and Miss S. Hodgson. Tlie women’s long-driving competition in the afternoon was won by Miss P. Finch, and the men’s by Mr. S. Ellingford. Mornington Ladies’ Club In the medal round played by the Mornington Ladies’ Golf Club on Sunday Mrs. Andrews returned the best card, 93-27-66. Karori Club The first competitions of the season were played at the Karori links during the week-end with the following results: On Saturday the usual monthly medal round' was won by W. Hutson, 94-24-70, A. J. Craighead being next, S 2-7-75. The fotirball bogey on Sunday morning was won by G. Simmiss (6) and T. Younie (13), 6 up, followed by D. F. Anderson (14) and H. E. Taylor (24), 5 up. In the afternoon a 1 fourball stableford saw visitors in R. Pye (16) and D. Dacre (2) win witji 38 points. J. D. Mclntosh, the club’s honorary professional, covered the course on Saturday in 71, one under bogey figures. Next Saturday afternoon a bogey competition will be played, and bn Sunday the usual fotirball bogey will take place in the morning, and a fourball stableford in the afternoon. Tui Glen Club A medal competition on the Tui Glen links on Sunday morning resulted in a tie between G. Persson (23) and R. Dalgleish (17), who both recorded net 75. A stableford event in the afternoon was won by C. Peterson (9), who scored 33 points!. F. S. Bloom (15) came second, and was followed by A. J. Lovett (11) and D. R. Elliott (15). NORTH ISLAND TITLE Prominent Players Entered Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, April 4. Entries already received for the North Island golf championships, which will be played on the Hokowhitu links, Palmerston North, at Easter, indicate that the field will include many outstanding players. Some weeks ago it was that l the amateur champion, B. 'M. Silk, would not enter, but this week-end his entry was passed in. Another competitor will be the open title-holder, J. P. Hornabrook.
