RACEHORSES SOLD

Catalogue And Conveyor WOMAN PURCHASER (By Caubine.) The racehorses Catalogue and Conveyor have been sold by Mr. E. L. Barnes, Palmerston North, to Mrs. A. Jamieson, daughter of a well-known Canterbury racing identity of earlier days. The sale will surprise many, as Catalogue is experiencing his best season on the turt and Conveyor has made satisfactory progress since being purchased by Mr. Barnes in Hawke’s Bpy a few months ago and lias good prospects as a jumper. The price, it is understood, was £6OO. Catalogue was bred by “ Ir - L, ‘ Stead at Flaxmere Stud, near Hastings. He is by Lord Quex from Catalim. by Catmint from Symbolism, the dam of the speedy Kiliashandra. Besides Catalogue, Catalini produced I’aleta, Vandyke and Hunting Cat. As a yearling Catalogue was purchased by Mr. Barnes and tor some time be was raced by Messrs. J. Hughes, A. W. Alters and E. L. Barnes in partnership. He had six starts as two-yea'r-old, winning once. His first race was in the Nursery Handicap at the Manawatu summer meeting in December, 1932. His first win was at Ellerslie in the autumn. The race was the Autumn Stakes, run over six furlongs, in which he beat Sea Fox and others. He was ridden in his first success by H. N. Wiggins. ~ . His 17 starts as a three-year-old yielded two firsts, four seconds and flue third. The wins were both at Woodville over a mile and a distance, one in hack company and the other in the Gothard Memorial Handicap. He ran a good second to Red Manfred in the Great Derby after being a dozen lengths behind tlie winner at the half-mile. On tbe next day of the meeting he ran Nightly ,to a head in the Clifford Plate. As a four-year-old and a five-year-old he had a lean time, winning i2d in stakes in the former period and to m the latter. Ten starts during his four-year-old career gave him two thirds, one at Marton and the other at Woodville. poor was his form and so disappointing from a horse who had given fair Promise that, after racing twice in the 193D-3O season (when he was a five-year-old), he was thrown out of training. He was handed to Mrs. A. W. McDonald, who hacked him, took him to agricultural shows and so on. The treatment wrought a great improvement in him. ' After an absence of nearly six months from the racecourses, he reappeared at the Woodville autumn meeting as a six-year-old, and ran second to Silver River in a six-furlong race. He won the Silverstream Handicap (one mile) at Trentham in his next start, and followed that up by running second to Reipar in the Champion Hack Cup (one mile and three furlongs) during the same fixture at Trentham. Hia' next starts were at Fcilding, where a second to Sanhedrin on the first day was bettered by a win in the Oroua Hack Cup, one mile and a quarter, under 9.5, on the second day Contesting the Awapuni Gold Cup a little later, ire finished second to Wild Chase. In his six starts for the season he had the consistent record of two firsts and four seconds. Several unplaced performances followed,’ but before the season was through he had run second m the Coronation Cup at the Hawke’s Bay fixture to Padishah, and had won the McRae Handicap at the Manawatu winter meeting in runaway style. His stake winnings-during the season aggregated £730. lie was racing now solely in the ownership of Mr. ißarncs, Messrs. Hughes and Akers having relinquished their interests in him. . The present has been his heaviest season. lie has had 19 starts—lias won three races and nearly £2OOO in stakes. He began the racing year well by winning the C.J.C. Winter Cup, scoring very easily and paying good dividends. He was beaten by the Stewards Handicaji winner Alma, in the August Handicap (seven furlongs) later in the meeting, when conceding Alma 141 b. At the last New Zealand Cup meeting he won the Jockey Club Handicap, aud at Awapuni last month he won the King George Handicap. He was second in the last Wellington Cup to Padishah, to whom he conceded 81b., and at Trentham m March he was narrowly beaten by Davolo in the Autumn Handicap when Davolo was in receipt of 91b. He has won £3304 in stakes, and there appears to be uo reason for regarding him as a horse who has come to the end of his tether. His record is as follows: —

Conveyor is a six-year-old gelding by Tractor from Puma Lux. He has won in the lower grade, and is expected to be able to hold his own when. Ins attention is directed to jumping. He is related to Luna Lux, a good steeplechaser.
