The Otaki Seat MR. MONK AT MOUTOA Dominion Special Service. , Otaki, April 3. There was a large attendance of National Party supporters at Moutoa on Friday evening to meet Mr. G. A. Monk, who will contest the Otaki seat in the interests of the party at the next elections. A musical and elocutionary programme was presented, after which the chairman, Mr. W. J. Ross, introduced Mr. Monk. He referred to the candidate’s successful local body administration as an indication of his ability and qualification for public service.- He expressed the gathering’s regret at the illness of Mrs. Monk, which prevented her participation in the social gatherings being held. Mr. Monk thanked Mr. Ross for his expression of sympathy and said Mrs. Monk -was improving and hoped to be with him later in the campaign. In a brief address Mr. Monk said controversial political questions would be reserved for his public meetings and he confined himself to the principles involved in the present political situation, the difference in the fundamental policies of the two parties, and the responsibility of electors in making a decision in the best interests of the future of New Zealand. He again stress; ed the importance of the last aspect to the younger generation. At the conclusion of his address Mr. Monk was introduced to many of those present who had not previously met him. Just before supper was to be served the electric-lights went out and did not come on again for the rest of the evening. However, the farmers’ ingenuity soon overcame this disability. The front doors and the large side doors were thrown open, a motor-car drawn up to each with headlights on, and the party went on happily. Further social evenings this week will be held at Te Horo on Tuesday, Shannon on Wednesday and Ohau on Thursday. Advice has been received by the Labour Party executive at Dannevirke that the national office has approved of Mr. G. A. Harris, farmer, Kaiparoro, as the Labour candidate to oppose Sir Alfred Ransom for the Pahiatua seat at the forthcoming election. Mr. Hansen is a dairy-farmer and chairman of the Kaiparoro Dairy Co.
