SECOND ARBITRATION COURT

Mr. Duff To Be Employers’ Representative APPOINTMENT APPROVED BY MINISTER The appointment of Mr. V. Duff, New Plymouth, as employers’ representative on the Second Court of Arbitration, lias been approved by the Minister of Labour, Hon. H. T. Armstrong. The Minister stated in an interview last evening that the necessary Order-in-Council would be gazetted in time to enable Mr. Duff to take up his duties at the beginning of April. The present representative of the employers on the court, Mr. W. E. Anderson, had expressed a desire to be relieved by the end of this month. Mr. Anderson intends to resume the secretaryship of the Auckland Provincial Employers’ Association —-the position he held before his appointment to the court.

Mr. Valentine Duff has taken a prominent part in industrial matters in Taranaki, having been engaged at every sitting of the Court of Arbitration in that .province for the past 14 years. Mr. Duff was‘on the staff of the Union Steam Ship Company from 19015 to 1914, when he was nnnointed commercial master at the New flymouth Technical College. In 1915 he completed his accountancy examinations, and commenced practice as an accountant in New Plymouth. In 1922 he became associated with Mr. U. H. Wvnvard, the firm being known as Duff and Wynyard. In 1923 Mr. Duff was appointed secretary of the Taranaki Employers’ Association. He has also, been secretary of the Automobile Association (Taranaki) for the past 14 years.
