Lamb Reared By Cow

At. Feilding last Friday Mr. 11. C. McKellar, Lee’s Line, invited me to call to see a big lamb. About a week after it was born one of his cows simply took possession of it and has reared it and still has it. .It is a .rain. lamb, us yet undocked, as the cow will allow no one near it. She has proved a great fostermother and the lamb is now inimense. Drenching biot Dropped.

While getting some drenching supplies a few days ago 1 'remarked that I supposed business must be blid this dry season. The supplier assured me, however, that most of his clients were regular ones, who drenched on principles, wet or dry. I think that is sound policy. Artificial Insemination.

It is reported that some 6280 stations have been established in Russia for artificial' insemination. This year it is

planned to treat 1 L 5W,000 head of cattle, besides the other stock previously handled. The Saranac Box.

Concerning the banning of the Saranac butter-box I learn that the Morrinsville Dairy Company, with an output of about 3000 tons of butter a year, has long used this box. Because of criticism of the box some years ago the company instructed its London agents to pay without dispute and without reference to the New Zealand office all claims made arising from faulty packing. On approximately. 10,000 tons of butter sent Home, all in saranae boxes, the total claims did not run, to a £lO note. Huge Sheep Lorry. - An enormous, specially-built sheep lorry is now employed bringing sheep from far-out stations into the railway at Broken Hill. It carries 350 grown sheep, is 10ft.-wide, 13ft. high, and 58ft. long overall; The radiator cap-stands 6ft. 6in. from the ground, and the ■ engine is a Diesel. : . . "Surreydale” Wool. Just three weeks ago an account of olden times on Surreydale station, Pahiatua district, was given in these columns. Last Wednesday morning, on reading the Wellington wool sale reports. I was pleased to see that Surreydale Lincoln hogget wool hail topped its catalogue, selling at 15id. lb. for a special lot of four bales. Congratulations to Mr. John D. Piper for topping bis own catalogue, and also top price of the sale. Congratulations likewise to the Pahiatua district, whose hills produced the wool.
