STEEL WORKS SITE
Consideration Of Defence
Aspect Urged
By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, March 25. In tlie course of a discussion at a meeting of the Buller Progress League this evening ou the question of setting up a committee to acquire all the facts in support of Westport’s claim to be the site of the projected steel works, Mr. G. G. M. Mitchell said there was the question of the strategic placing of the works in case of war. New Zealand should be self-support-ing as far as munitions and armaments went, and the site of the proposed steel works should also be in a good position for the manufacture of armaments and ammunition. It. should lend itself to easy distribution of products throughout the country.
