Railway Apprentices’ Club Dance There was a large attendance of young people at the Hutt Railway Workshops social hall last evening for the apprentices’ club dance. The decorative scheme was effective. The wide landscape scene at tlie back of the stage provided a colourful background and gay Chinese lanterns, multi-coloured pendant paper streamers and electric light shades, mirror balls and fringed gold-shaded wall lamps all added to the effect. The committee was Messrs. W. Scullion (chairman), G. Posselt (secretary), J. Millard, J. Kemp, C. Pickett, J. Cosgrove, R. Spaekinan, G. Seymour, J. Connor and J. O'Leary. League of Mothers. Mrs. H. W. Kersley, Western Hutt Road, Lower Hutt, president of the provincial committee of the League ot Mothers, entertained presidents, vice-pre-sidents, secretaries and treasurers of the various leagues in the province at ternoon at her home yesterday. Mrs. Kersley received mure than 70 guests wearing a ground-length frock of black watered taffetas finished witli a collar of sequins. Her daughter, Miss Doreen Kersley, wore a frock of American silk with a light ground, patterned in gold and brown tones, and with a sash of cinnamon brown and apricot georgette. Miw. Kersley s niece, Miss Lenua Finlay, wore a smart frock of white satin with brown stripes and finished with touches of green georgette. Tlie terraced garden with its green lawns, gay flower beds and shrubs, with the background of bluegum trees, looked most attractive. Mrs. C. White. Dominion president of tlie League of Mothers, said .-he felt, it was an inspiration to hold the afternoon at the beginning of the year instead of at the end, as done previously. “Bon Voyage” Party. Mrs. AVelcli, Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt, entertained a number of friends at her home yesterday afternoon at a "bon voyage” party for Mrs. R. O. Chesney and her daughter, Miss Mary Chesney, who will leave shortly for a trip to -England. Mrs. Welch’s frock was of navy blue crepe satin, with touches of white; the navy blue net yoke, which extended into the sleeve;- 1 , was nppliqued witli satin. Mrs. Chesney was in saxe. blue maroc-ain, with a black hat, and'Miss Chesney wore a frock of floral ninon. Those present were Mesdames N. B. Gibbons, J. P. Phillips', H.
