HOPE FOR PEACEFUL FUTURE

Poland And Lithuania ROAD TO NEIGHBOURLY RELATIONS OPEN Warsaw, March 23. “The road to neighbourly relations between Poland and Lithuania based on goodwill and mutual respect for the rules and customs governing the two nations is now open,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Colonel Beck, speaking at a packed Senate meeting. “If the blood of the frontier guard who was killed seals the understanding between Poland and Lithuania,” he said, “he has given his life in a good cause.” ■ Poland recognised Lithuania’s right to have her own State and conduct her own policy, he added, provided it was not dictated from elsewhere. There was every reason to hope for peaceful intercourse in the future.

M. Kolopotowsky, Poland’s first diplmatlc representative to Lithuania for 18 years, has left for Kovno. From Kovno it is reported that the Government has appointed a committee of five to participate in technical negotiations for the re-establishment of relations with Poland, under the slogan, “This is our reply to the ultimatum.”

Contributions to the National Defence Fund are arriving from all parts of the country.
