Expenditure Exceeds Estimates EASTBOURNE FINANCES Expenditure had been above the estimates, brought about by foreshore protection and other subsidised work, stated a report presented to the Eastbourne Borough Council last night by the town clerk-general manager, Mr. C. L. Bishop. Rates collected to the end of February were fIIJNO —current rates £10,200, arrears £llOO. Rates for the current year were £11,200 aud the collections represented 91 per cent., a steady improvement over the past few jears. Proposed Eastbourne Library. Information was being obtained referable to (1) What would be involved tn establishing a municipal library ; (2) the possibility of a grant from the Carnegie Corp.) ; and (73) the proposed national library scheme, reported Cr. M. E. Magill, chairman of the library committee, to the Eastbourne Borough Council last night. The committee had inquired regarding the possibilities of the borough being included in the country service library scheme, aud, while such a scheme was not available at its present stage of development, the committee proposed to keep in touch with the authorities in view of future possibilities. The housing of a library was under consideration by the committee and would be reported on later. Tender For Bus Garage.
A tender of £6713 by Mr. D. Daily for the erection of an omnibus garage at Eastbourne to house the council's fleet was accepted by the Eastbourne Borough Council last night. The work will be completed in five months.
