COLD STEEL DEAD

Dominion Special Service. Hawera, March 24. A good Taranaki galloper of over a decade ago died at Manaia early this week when Cold Steel, at the advanced ace ot 19, dropped dead. An accident in 192 S terminated his racing career, and he had since been in happy retirement on the farm of his owner. Mr. B. L. J oil, at Hawera by S. Reed and later by J. Fryer,' Cold Steel was a versatile performer over all distances from six furlongs to a mile and a quarter, and won about £4500 in stakes. He reached the peak of his form during the boom years, and in 1924 won the Stratford, Taranaki and Wanganui Cups. The lastnamed two races then carried a stake of £750 each.
