Position Of Sterling By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, March 23. The following mean closing rates on foreign exchanges were current to-day compared with those ruling on March 22:—

London, March 23. Gold.— an ounce, fine. Silver.—Spot, 20 5-16 d. an ounce; forward, 20d. On New Zealand Currency Basis The Bank of New South Wales, Wellington, quoted the following rates , for their purchases and sales of foreign exchange yesterday:—

'l’bo. Associated Banks (other than the Hank of New Srfuth Wales) quoted the following dollar rales yesterday, on a New Zealand currency basis. They aro subject to alteration without notice.

E.S. AND A. BANK Interim Dividend Declared By Telegraph. — Press Assn.—Copyright. London, March 23. The English, Scottish and Australian Bank has declared an interim dividend of 3J per cent., subject to payment of income tax. The dividend, which is payable on May 16, less adjusted English income tax, is at an unchanged rate. The total distribution last year was 7 per cent.
