GOING ABROAD

Red Cross Farewell To Sister Eaddy

Slembers of the Red Cross Home Committee, together with the matron, staff and patients, assembled at the home, SO Hobson Street, recently, to bid farewell and “bon voyage” to Sister N. A. Eaddy, who has been in the service of the society for a period extending over sixteen years, and who is leaving for a trip abroad. Mr. F. S. Pope, chairman of the Wellington centre executive, on behalf of the com-, mittee, presented Sister Eaddy with a' leather "holdall,” suitably inscribed, as a small token of esteem in which she is held by the committee. He referred to the long and conscientious service which Sister Eaddy had rendered not only to the home, but also to the nursing .profession. At the beginning of the Great WarSister Eaddy was on her way to England. and on arrival immediately reported for duty with the Imperial nursing authorities, When the unit of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service arrived, Sister Eaddy transferred to that body, serving at Walton and Codford Hospitals. With the close of the hostilities, Sister Eaddy returned to the Dominion, serving at the military hospitals at Rotorua and Trantham. Sixteen years ago the latter hospital was closed and the Red Cross Hopie opened, Sister Eaddy being taken over as one of the original staff. Throughout her service has been •characterised by loyalty and efficiency, which merited the thanks and esteem of one and all.

Lady Myers, in a very happy little speech, endorsed the sentiments expressedl by Mr. Pope. “We get out of life just what we put into it,” said Lady Myers. Sister Eaddy had always in a kindly, cheerful way, given of her best, earning the warm regard of all those among whom she moved. She would be missed from the position she had graced over a long period, and all present would' unite in wishing her a pleasant and health-giving trip abroad, combined with a safe return to these shoes.

Following . the presentation, Sister Eaddv was accorded musical honours. Matron Mcßae and the staff entertained the party to morning tea. ■Before the gathering dispersed, Mr. Pope took the opportunity of conveying a farewell greeting to the secretary, Mr. M. S. Galloway, and Mrs. Galloway, who will leave for, Sydney by the Awatea on Tuesday next to participate in the Red 1 Cross Conference and the Anzac Day celebrations.
