MUSIC FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN

Lecture-Recital Scheme Much interest has been aroused by the announcement of Mr. L. de Manny’s scheme of musical lecture-recitals for the benefit of children attending Wellington secondary schools. He is finding it more difficult, however,-to secure the necessary financial support. The Minister,of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, has’written to Mr. de Mauny ns follows:— “Dear Mr. de Mauny,—ln further reference to your offer to organise three lecture orchestral concerts for school children, I have to say that I have discussed the matter with the Director of Education, and agree with him in expressing approval' of your suggested scheme. It appears to me that the best way initially to assist your undertaking is to give you permission to announce that it has my personal patronage and approval, and that the scheme has the approval of the education board. Both myself find the director desire the concerts to be a success, and hope that they will be very largely attended by the school children of Wellington.”
