NEW BRIDGE OPENED
Mr. Semple At Kanieri By Telegraph—Press Association. Hokitika, March 24. The Minister of Public Works, lion. R. Semple, arrived this afternoon and officially opened the bridge over the Hokitika River at Kanieri. Thi- is a fine concrete structure replacing a wooden structure partly demolished by a flood three years ago. There was a large attendance, and the Minister was presented with a gold nugget in ap preciation of his services to the district in connection with reading and bridging improvements. Deputations were later received, ami the Minister . agreed to start at once river protection work at Arahahra where considerable damage is continuing after the recent floods and the river is threatening.both the road and farm properties. The Minister left later for Waiho by plane and will traverse South Westland by the same means on the two following days on a visit of inspection, returning on Saturday afternoon.
