WOULD STAND ONLY AS INDEPENDENT Bv Telegraph—Press Association. Elthain, March 24. A large and representative meeting of Egmont electors was held at Kaponga yesterday, there being about 200 present. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, member for Egmont. was present by invitation. In defining his position, he Stated he could consider standing for the Egmont seat at the next election only if given an entirely free hand and if he went to the poll as an Independent. This course meant his severance from the National Party. After full discussion the meeting almost unanimously passed a resolution requesting Mr. Wilkinson again to offer his services to the constituency. Mr. Wilkinson promised to give the request his careful consideration, but said he would require time in order to consider his decision. The meeting was definite in its demand that Mr. Wilkinson should continue in Parliament.
