PROVINCE OF OTAGO
Anniversary Celebrated By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, March 23. The nineteenth anniversary of the province of Otago was celebrated today in glorious weather. A gathering of early settlers numbering well over 500 was held in the afternoon and a concert at night attracted a capacity audience. Ninety years ago to-day the settlement of Otago was founded with the arrival at Port Chalmers of the ship John Wickliffe with the first colonists. Five hundred passengers arrived in the year 1848, and of these only three are now living, Mrs. J. L. Soutter, aged 93, now resident in Sydney; Mrs. M. Stewart, aged 91, Wellington; and Mrs. Fraser, Timaru, aged 90.
