FENCING CLUBS
Move To Form New Zealand Association The formation of a New Zealand Fencing Association, to be affilliitpil with the British Amateur Fencing Association, is to be considered by a conference of Dominion swordsmen in Christchurch on March 2(1 anil 27. the conference has been convened by the Christchtircli. Swords, Club. In consideration of the growth Of this sport in recent years, and the increased public interest in physical fitness, it has been felt that the time has crime to organise fencing under proper control, and on a regular footing throughout the Dominion; A letter inviting the club’s participation in the conference was received at the annual general meeting of the New Zealand Swords Academy, on Tuesday night. It was decided to send a delegate to attend the conference. It was felt that probably at first the headquarters of the sport should be in Christchurch, because of the amount of preparatory work that hud been done by Christchurch representatives, but that it would probably later become necessary to move it to Wellington, because of the number of clubs and preponderance of active members in the centre, and the more central situation of Wellington from the point of view of organising either meetings or matches.
The annual report, jiresented to the meeting, stated that the past season had been a very successful one. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. A. Jenkins; club captain, Mr. N. St. C. Dickson; secretary and treasurer, Miss K. Kiely; vice-cap-tain, Mr. J. Rose; committee, Mrs. N. St. C. Dickson, Miss J. Willis, Mr. S. G. Gurney, Miss K. Kiely, Mr. N. St. C. Dickson, Mr. J. Rose.
