ATTITUDE OF HEAD OFFICE

Farmers’ Union Meeting MR. R. 0. MONTGOMERIE’S PROPOSALS Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, March 23. Two remits from the Makirikiri branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, one taking exception to what the branch considered was the completely . unsatisfactory nature of the head office reply to questions put by Mr. R. 0. Montgomerie and the other appealing to all members in the Wanganui provincial district to support Mr. Montgomerie, were received at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui provincial executive to-day. After Mr. Lloyd Hammond, group representative, had given an explanation of the Dominion executive’s attitude, the Makirikiri delegates, with the consent of the'meeting, withdrew the remits for further consideration and redrafting by their branch. For some time past Mr. Montgomerie has been urging a proper system of farm accountancy and revisjon of the present system of land valuation. The remits considered by the provincial executive today were carried by the Makirikiri branch at a special meeting on March 3. Mr. Hammond said there was a great deal in Mr. Montgomery’s questions, but they were liot capable of practical application. He suggested that Mr. Montgomerie should bring down more concrete proposals. Mr. Montgomerie protested that this was the work of the union’s head office and he considered it was no reply to say that because of a shortage of funds the union could not engage competent experts.
