WALKING RACE TO BE REVIVED

——♦ Wellington-Hutt Valley As a result of the efforts of athletes in Wellington interested in walking, the Wellington-Hutt Valley walking race, abandoned since 1925, is to be revived. Previously the race was held from the Lower Hutt Post Office to the Wellington Post Office, but arrangements have been made to hold it on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m., from the Star Boating Club, Jervoig Quay, to the Petone Oval, a distance of approximately nine miles. There are to be seven starters, including D. Pedersen, ex-New Zealand champion walker and present holder of the Wellington one-mile walk championship. P. Aston, the present Wellington threemile walk champion, Constable J. McCarthy, winner of the mile walk at the Auckland provincial championships in February, and also a winner over the same distance at the recent police sports championships at. Sydney, and D. Sinclair, well known in hiking and tramping circles, are also to compete, the other three competitors being W. Gollop, W. Owens, and H. Reid, well-known Wellington competitors.
