CUP TO GALLEON

First Day Of Oamaru Meeting WIN FOR SILVER STREAK Dominion Special Service. Oamaru, March 23. The Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting opened to-day in fine weather and attracted a large attendance. The going was in good order but a shade on the soft side. Totaliastor investments amounted to £12,209/10/-, compared with £8915/10/- last year, an increase of £3394. „ , Flame Queen won the Trial Stakes m convincing style from Steer Clear and Netherlea. Fayo and Pink Lad tell early in the race, but their riders escaped injury. w i, Supfrex was slow away in the Hignweight Handicap but proved too good for the opposition. McHeath did not seem inclined to gallop in the early part of the race but came on to finish second. King” Potts was always well placed m the Weston Trot and won in good style. The favourite, Wee Potts, broke up badly at the start. Backers went solidly for Galleon in the Oamaru Cup, and he had the race won at the home turn, where he had joined Rebel Lad and High Glee, who were then in charge. Mungatoon and Linguist stayed on and they got up and cut Rebel Lad and High Glee out of the places but without seriously troubling the winner. Galleon has now won three races on end. Stratosphere dropped dead after passing the post. Dracula was made favourite for the Windsor Hack Handicap and, getting well away, won from end to end. Rabble stayed on best of the others, and Salient Knight was moving up over the final quarter of a mile. Double Gift started favourite in a good betting race on the Stewards’ Handicap. The start was a little ragged and Haughty Winner was first to show out, but’Royal Gallant and Ponty were in charge at the far turn and Haughty Winner lost his place. Ponty and Double Gift led round the home turn, where Silver Streak was closing on them and Haughty Winner coming on again with Roseman. Silver Strealt scored well from Haughty Winner and Roseman, who were both finishing on well. Silver Streak was showing signs of lameness after the race. Cocksure was always well placed in the Parkside Hack Handicap and won well at the finish from Glenacre, New Note, Volo Dale, Silver Sail and Norseman.
