MONDAY’S WRESTLING

Ko two wrestlers have ever taken an engagement more seriously than Leo Jensen and Joe Tonti, who are to open the Wellington season at the Town Hall on Monday night. Since they arrived in the city last week-end they have spared no effort to get themselves into first-class trim by the time they enter the ring. Both have been out on the hills early each morning, and their road work must have carried them over a considerable stretch of territory. In addition they have been having gymnasium work-muts, and, as they came to New Zealand directly after a busy American season there need be r.o doubts as to their fitness. Jensen, a stock-ily-built wrestler of Danish extraction, comes from Vancouver, and he has been associated with wrestling since his early youth. He started under the GraecoRoman style in hi s native country, and then learnt the catch-as-catch-can style in Vancouver. Before he turned professional he had won the amateur light-heavy-weight championship of British Columbia and he had not been long among the professionals before he was making a big name for himself. In South Africa he accounted for Bob Myers, previous claimant of the title in that country, and, in Paris, lie beat the Frenchman Henri De Glane, a former holder of the world title. Jensen is a rugged and fiery wrestler who invariably provides the crowds with plenty of thrills and he will be seen at his best against a man of similar build like Tonti.
