Farewell Parties
Many farewell parties have recently been held in honour of Mrs. I. I. McGregor, Masterton, who will leave next week with her husband on a visit to England and Europe. They will sail by the Tainui from Wellington. Mr. McGregor recently retired from the position of postmaster at Masterton, which he held for many years, and both Mr. and Mrs. McGregor have made many friends in the district. Among other parties a pleasant little gathering was held in the Oak Room at Hugo and Shearer’s tearooms on Tuesday afternoon when a number of Mrs McGregor’s friends met to bid her farewell. Afternoon tea was served and the guests, who were entertained by Mrs. H. E. Pither, played bridge. The winners were Mrs. Kerslake and Mrs. W. L. Hunter. Mrs. McGregor wore a frock of clover georgette trimmed with velvet and a dress spray of carnations and roses. Those present were Mesdames H. E. Pither, J. I. McGregor, Price, J. A. Kerslake, Wylie, F. J. Traynor, Dickson, Saunders, A. H. Hornblow, Matthews, J. F. Robert's, A. R. Clarkson, W. L. Hunter, A. W. Charleson, J. H. Handyside, R. Hornblow, Gaynor, F. J. Staniforth, B. Iveson, E. J. Bassett and Misses A. Stempa, Wilden, Breen, V. Gambling, G. and M. Pither. In the evening the guest of honour was again entertained, this time at a theatre party, when there were about 30 of her friends present. They later went on to a supper at the home of Mrs. H. E. Pither, Lansdowne. The lounge looked very gay with its decorations of bright zinnias, carnations and roses. Mrs. McGregor, who was wearing black floral taffeta, was presented with many useful gifts, including an evening bag from those who were present. Mrs. Charleson, on behalf of their friends, wished Mr. and Mrs. McGregor a “happy voyage and a safe return.”
