PREPARATION OF NEW AERODROME
Progress Of Nelson Work By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, March 23. After inspecting work on the new Nelson aerodrome, the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple, gave instructions for the preparation oi.the completed portion for use on occasions if required during the coming winter. Excellent progress has been made by the use of modem machinery, and an additional 30 acres are now included, making the aerodrome 241 acres in extent.
Mr. Semple said that when completed the aerodrome would be second to none in the Southern Hemisphere and. with the wonderful visibility and Nelson's exceptionally favourable' climatic conditions, it would be as good as any in the world as tar-as he knew. An interesting fact revealed during the progress of the work .is the consolidation of sand because of the continuous passing over the area of heavy tractors and scoops. This has consolidated the area to a much greater extent than in its original state, and provides excellent ground conditions.
