SOCIAL CREDIT IN ALBERTA
Government Whip Released From Prison Edmonton, March 22. Following the retention by the Social Credit Party of the Edmonton seat in the House of Commons at a by-election yesterday, the Governor-General, Lord Tweedsmuir, has signed an order releasing the Government Whip, Mr. J. Un win, who was imprisoned as a result of the “Bankers’ Toadies” case last year. The Minister of Justice announced that Mr. G, F. Powell, Douglas Social Credit adviser from London, would be treated likewise when half his six months’ sentence had been served. He refused to promise that the order for the deportation of Mr. Powell would be stayed. The vacancy in the Edmonton seat occurred through the death of a Social Credit member.
