HAWERA TRAINING

Horses For Manawatu Meeting Dominion Special Service. Hawera, March 22. Overnight-rain restricted training operations on the Hawera tracks this morning, and the only fast work was that of several horses engaged at Mauawatu. The course proper was open, with the pegs well out, and the going was dead. Student Prince (Cole) completed his work by sprinting the last three furlongs in 38. He is in great order at present, and W. J; Broughton is to have the mount. Fafner (Fryer) led Trilitha (Sexton) over the early stages of six furlongs, but the pair were on terms at the close in 1.19, the. first three in 38. Fafner was kept up to his work all the way. but TriJitha could have improved . She should be well suited by the distance of the Autumn Plate on Friday, and is expected to play a prominent part in the finish. Over--tures have been made to obtain the services of L. J. Ellis for Fafner. Amoroso was let off with solid pacework on the inside plough . He appears in great heart, and may be an outside prospect in the hack sprint. Notiiim was also apportioned two rounds steady work. He is afforded a tine opportunity of atoning for his Opunake defeat at Awapuni on Friday. Present intentions are for Notium to make the trip to Hastings after pacing at Manawatu. Daisy Chain and Golden Orchid, who have been on the easy list since Opunake, infused dash into their pacework on the inside grass. Both are greatly improved and will be at Stratford next week, when they should again perform well. The Waverley trainer, G. Reid, will he represented by Ruaform, Ramleh and Silvanus at the Manawatu meeting. The trio are in capital order, and should not return empty handed. Ruaform is due to make his first appearance this season, and, although he is carrying a good deal of surplus condition, he'invariably races well fresh. He may require one race to do himself justice, but his prospects cannot be overlooked. J. McLaughlin is to have the mount. Ramleh has not started since his handsome victory in the Juvenile Handicap at the Egmont meeting, but he is a high-class galloper and has a handy weight in the Woodley Handicap on Friday. He has been working well of late. Silvanus should be well suited by the roomy course at Awapuni and is a lightweight possibility in the open sprint. HASTINGS GALLOPS Dominion Special Service. Hastings, March 22. It was expected that the Hastings tracks ifould be busy this morning because of the approaching Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay meetings, but there was little fast work. Track conditions were perfect, despite overhead rain. Tapurau and Red Cockade, for novices, pleased in registering 65 for half a mile, both being against the bit. The greatly improved filly Jacynth ran a leisurely five furlongs in 66. She was disappointing until winning at Napier early this month, but since then has pleased immensely.

Tommy Atkins was schooled oyer country instead of hurdlee, as was intended. Despite his hunting experience he is not a proficient jumper. Iddo and Kikiroki gave a fast and straight exhibition over a round of hurdles. although the latter rapped a couple hard. Iddo is very fit., •Laughing Song and Centrepoise were abreast two lengths in front of Morning Flight at the end of half a mile in 49. The latter, is a fine colt. With a lighter weight Tiger Gain was two lengths clear of Soho at the end of a round in 1.42 J. The former is right back to form. Master Cvklon, despite getting his tongue over the bit when hopping off, ran the best round, 1.40, of the morning. He was assisted over the last six furlongs by the improving hack Thala. Master Cyklon is not a certain starter at Awapuni. Hunting Cat, who appears fit and well, •was only trotted on the sand.. He will have hie final gallop at Hastings on Wednesday. Mahutai ran once round in 1.434 and indicated that he is on the upgrade. Red Shoes (Beau Pere—Rapide) and Eletra (Marconigram—Tamyan) were restrained, taking.s3 for half a mile. Both juveniles are giving indication of being above the average. Short Circuit easily beat Poverty Bay over five furlongs in 64. . A. Quinlivan, whose present headquarters are at Avondale, will move his team to Hastings next week and will occupy the training establishment he had when previously in Hastings. /
