The easing in political tension has induced optimism on the Stock Exchange markets, and the nejv account dealings opened on a fair scale. British funds improved by up to 15s. Gold shares were firmer and home industrials very firm. Oil shares were appreciably higher, though Mexicans made sharp declines. Profits Increase The accounts of Metters (N.Z.), Limited, porcelain manufacturers, Wellintgon, show a net profit of £6216 for the year ended December 3.1, 1937. This compares with £5262 in the previous year. The directors recommend a dividend of 6 per cent., an unchanged rate, absorbing £3896. The report states that extensions to buildings and additions to plant made during the past two years have, enabled economies to be effected in working. The plant has been fully employed and sales, although below the level of the previous years, have been satisfactory.

The company, which is a subsidiary of General Industries, Limited, Sydney was formed in 1929. Its first dividend was paid in 1935.
