OBITUARY

Mr. A. G. Robertson Mr. Alexander Grigor Robertson, of 12 Ronald Street, New Plymouth, died in the’New Plymouth Hospital ou sa? urday, after a brief illness. He was born at Circle Hill, near Aliltoii, Otago, on Alay 11, 1885, and was the eldest son of tliq late Alexander and Annie Robertson. He was educated at the .Circle Hill School and commenced ins career in the New Zealand railways, and after 15 years’ service in that department joined the Joll Dairy t ompany's mechanical staff at Okaiuwa. After several years with this company he commenced business oil Ins own account and had remained in the Taranaki district ever since, Mr. Robei isou was a very well known and popular figure throughout the whole distr'e. I. ’ He was first married to Aliss lle.cuu Almond, at Dunedin, on January o, 1910, and she died at Hawera ou January 1, 1922, at the age of 32. There * were three children of this marriage, namely. Air. Reginald Alexander Robertson, at present serving with lue Royal Air Force in England; AL.ss Dorothea Alargaret Robertson. Wellington, and Aliss Helena Robertson, Auckland. His second marriage lojii place at Hawera on October 19, 19-3, to Aliss Lottie Sherrard, second cluest daughter of Airs. Emily Agnes Snerrard, Pongaroa, and the 'late Mr. Thomas Sherrard. There are tbiee children of this marriage, namely, Douglas Robertson, Lionel McGregor Robertson, and Stanley Glyu Robertson, all of New Plymouth. The funeral took place at Hawera ou Altmday afternoon. There was a very large and representative assembly of relatives and friends at the Prt-sbj-terian Church and again at the cemetery. Air. Robertson’was a member of the Freemason's Lodge. He was also a member of the Oddfellows' Lodge and a service by this order .was conducted at the graveside jointly with that of the church. He is survived by his wife, four .-oils, and two daughters. Air. M. Robertson, Pio Pio, is a brother of deceased. Mr. J. E. Tremain The sales side of the motor trade in Wellington was well represented at the funeral yesterday of Mr. John Edward Tremain, who was killed in a car accident on the Eastbourne road on Sunday. Although he had been in New Zealand only a year and in Wellington only six months, he bad already established a reputation for salesmanship anil integrity. Air. Tremaiu was a son of Air. Alfred Tremaiu, a composer and musician of note in Sydney musical circles, who died a year ago. Although then aged only 15. Air. John Tremain was one of the first in Sydney to enlist on the outbreak of the Great War. He served with the 56th New South Wales Battalion. and remained unscathed until shortly before the Armistice, when he was badly woundeii. .At the time of his death lie was one of only a handtul of survivors of his battalion. Ou returning to Australia he interested himself in music and for some years led a dance bund which bore his name. He then entered the motor trade and quickly showed a flair fur racing and. under the name of Jack Edwards, achieved a high reputation. Several records on the difficult Phillip Island course still stand to bis name. For 14 years he was well known in Melbourne as one of the keenest men in the motor trade and a highly skilled commercial artist. ; Three years ago Mr. Tremaiu married Aliss Elsa Hall, elder daughter Of Mr. and Airs. G. Hall, Wanganui, who was then on the operatic stage in Australia. He leaves a widow and an infant sou. At the funeral yesterday the services at the chapel and .the crematorium were conducted by the Rev. E. M. MeLevie. The pall-bearers were Messrs. E. E. Hall. I). Hall. W. 0.. Lauchlan, Donovan. Proh-rt and 11. Warner.
