Swallowed A Cigarette Butt By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, March 22. The death of a 10-month Maori child as the result of swallowing a cigarette end was the subject of an inquest/at Wairoa yesterday. Before it was taken ili on Saturday the child was crawling round the floo( of its home, and it is thought possible that it picked a butt up. Unsuccessful attempts were made bv the mother to get the butt out. On Monday the child was admitted to Wairoa Hospital, where it died shortly afterward. The verdict at the inquest was that death was due to pneumonia brought about by swallowing a cigarette end.
