RED CROSS WORK

Reports of activity among younger members were given at the monthly meeting of tlie Wellington city snb-ceutre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, held recently. Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., was in the chair.

Following a lead of the New South Wales Red Cross, it was stated, steps were being taken to set up a "younger set,” in which a number of young people had already signified their keen interest. Tlie report from the Junior Red Cross allowed that the circles had embarked upon a wide and useful programme of social service activities. Tlie.se covered the making of toys and garments-for needy families, collecting books and flowers, and distributing them to sick children in hospital, making garments for the Knritane Hospital, making clothes for orphanages, and collecting vegetables and groceries for needy families. A successful harvest festival had been held at the 'Wellington Girls’ College, in conjunction with the Christian Students’ Union, at which a large quantity of foodstuffs had been collected and handed over to the society. At the request of the principal, a further class in first aid had been begun at the Rongotai College. During the month 1250 patrons at the Red Cross Cafeteria, Public Hospital, were served with refreshments. Donations received for this work amounted to £4/12/-. Numerous other donations in money and kind were acknowledged.
